Over 39,000 vehicles added to PH streets in February

Over 39,000 vehicles were sold in the Philippines in February, more than the sales recorded in the previous month, data released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) on Wednesday showed.

There were 39,164 units sold in February, reflecting a 4.1% increase from the 37,604 units sold in January and 2.9% higher than the 38,072 units sold in the same month last year.

Commercial vehicles accounted for the bulk of the sales with 79.16% or 31,010 units, while the remaining 20.82% or 8,154 units were passenger cars.

Sales of Asian utility vehicles (AUVs) stood at 6,681 units; light commercial vehicles at 23,404 units; light-duty trucks and buses at 554 units; medium-duty trucks and buses at 286 units; and heavy-duty trucks and buses at 85 units.

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. had the biggest market share with 47.67%, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 20.25%, Nissan Philippines Inc. with 5.79%, Suzuki Philippines Inc. with 4.63%, and Ford Group Philippines with 4.34%.

Year-to-date sales stood at 76,768 units, reflecting a 6.4% increase from the 72,132 units sold in the same period of 2023.

“The automotive sales trends in 2025 are influenced by several factors, including supply chain stability, growing demand for electric and autonomous vehicles, and global economic conditions,” CAMPI president Atty. Rommel Gutierrez said in a statement.

“There has been a notable consumers’ preferences for connected and personalized driving experiences, alongside a shift towards sustainability and environmental concerns,” he added.

Philippine automotive manufacturers earlier said they are looking to sell 500,000 units in 2025, on the back of the newly rolled out models and the introduction of more models later in the year.

“Technological advancements in AI, sensors, and infotainment systems, among others, are showing potential to transform the industry overtime. These factors will contribute to the overall positive sales trends in 2025,” Gutierrez said. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
