Toyota recalls 28,828 Raize units over ECU glitch

Toyota Raize units recalled ECU glitch

Toyota Motor Philippines has announced a recall of its very popular subcompact SUV Raize whose 28,828 units are believed to have faulty ECU or engine control units.

In a special service campaign, TMP announced a recall for Raize models manufactured from Dec. 1, 2021, to July 15, 2024.

Owners of the Raize model can expect an official communication from the TMP or may bring their vehicles to dealerships for ECU reprogramming free of charge.

“Due to improper programming of the engine ECU, under certain driving conditions, such as frequent braking operation in high altitude areas, there is a possibility that the suction pressure in the brake booster could not be maintained as designed.

“If this occurs, this could make the brake pedal harder to press, which means the vehicle might take longer to stop,” said the statement.

Raize has been a big hit in the country since it was introduced in February 2022, given its small size and excellent ride.

At the P1.068 million price tag for its 1.0 Turbo CVT, the Raize is shorter and narrower than the beloved Vios but has the same height. Raize has more spacious luggage space and looks more updated compared to the Vios. –NB, GMA Integrated News
