EDSA Busway now monitored by MMDA’s bus dispatch system

The EDSA Busway, a dedicated median bus lane in the country’s busiest thoroughfare, has been placed under the monitoring of the Bus Management and Dispatch System (BMDS) of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced.

In an advisory on social media, the DOTr said the monitoring of the MMDA’s BMDS will ensure that the flow of buses is well-managed and result in reduced congestion.

“Through the partnership with MMDA, this innovative system will improve the commuters’ experience by introducing a more systematic monitoring of the number of units plying the EDSA Busway,” the advisory read.

The DOTr said the partnership will also enable comprehensive driver monitoring, as MMDA’s dispatching officers stationed at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and in Monumento will be able to scan the drivers' unique QR codes.

“This grants access to crucial information, including unsettled violations, ensuring a high level of accountability,” it said.

The DOTr in December said it plans to privatize the operation of the EDSA Bus Carousel this year, as it said it will invite parties to participate in the bidding of the concession agreement. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
