NLEX to impose 80 kph speed limit on Candaba Viaduct

The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) plans to impose a lower speed limit for vehicles passing through the Candaba Viaduct in Pampanga to ensure road safety.

"It's actually part of our plan or our measure to reduce the accidents in the expressway and we think one of the critical sections is the Candaba viaduct so we proposed to TRB that we will implement a lower speed limit sa viaduct," said NLEX Chief Operating Officer Raul Ignacio.

He added that signages indicating an 80 kilometers per hour (kph) speed limit have already been installed along that portion of the expressway as part of the proposed transition.

"We placed 'yung mga signages as part of education muna sa ating mga motorista. As soon as we receive 'yung approval from TRB we will enforce immediately 'yung speed limit. Right now, we're in the education phase of our implementation," Ignacio said.

Last March, six were killed and nine were hurt after a tire of the van they were riding blew up while passing through the said viaduct.

According to the toll regulatory board, the maximum speed limit for cars traversing NLEX is currently 100 kph while the cap is at 80 kph for buses and trucks. — MDM, GMA News
