Auto industry sales reach 29,038 units in April, up 4.8% – CAMPI-TMA
Automotive industry sales grew by 4.8 percent to 29,038 units in April from 27,607 a year earlier, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) said in a joint report on Wednesday.
“The modest growth in April may be attributed to the less number of working days during the month," said CAMPI President Rommel Gutierrez, who is also vice president at Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMPC).
Industry data showed passenger cars, which accounted for 34 percent of total sales, declined by 1 percent to 9,862 units from 9,920.
Sales of commercial vehicles increased by 7.9 percent to 19,176 units from 17,777.
TMPC accounted for 43.42 percent of market share, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 17.76 percent.
Accounting for the third largest share of the market is Ford Motor Philippines Inc. at 8.44 percent, and Honda Car Philippines Inc. is fourth at 7.16 percent. Isuzu Philippines Corp. is fifth at 6.89 percent. — Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News
