PH auto manufacturers target 500,000 unit sales in 2025
Philippine automotive manufacturers are looking to sell 500,000 units in 2025, higher than the 467,000 units sold in the past year, on the back of the newly rolled out models and the introduction of more models later in the year.
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers in the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) announced the target on Thursday, reflecting a 7.00% increase from the 467,252 units sold in 2024.
“CAMPI is confident in setting the aspirational figure of 500,000 units sale as its target for this year,” CAMPI president Atty. Rommel Gutierrez said in a statement.
“Newly rolled out models and anticipated introduction of new models are some of the factors that will contribute to achieving this target,” he added.
The announcement was made amid the release of CAMPI’s joint report with the Truck Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (TMA), which showed that there were 37,604 units sold in January.
This reflects a 10.4% increase from the 34,060 units sold in January 2024 and a 10.6% decline from the 42,044 units sold in December 2024.
Most of the 1,445 units sold during the month were hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), followed by 146 battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and nine plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
Commercial vehicles accounted for 29,875 units sold in January, marking a 79.45% market share and reflecting a 16.6% growth from the 25,614 units sold the same month last year.
This comprised 6,698 units of Asian utility vehicles (AUVs); 22,350 light commercial vehicles; 497 light-duty trucks and buses; 261 units of medium-duty trucks and buses; and 69 heavy-duty trucks and buses.
Passenger cars accounted for the remaining 20.55% with 7,729 units sold for the month, down by 8.5% from the 8,446 units in January 2024.
Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. accounted for 48.07% of unit sales in January, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. with 19.61%, Nissan Philippines Inc. with 6.29%, Suzuki Philippines Inc. with 4.74%, and Ford Group Philippines with 4.19%.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
