Study on pork MSRP to conclude by end of February -DA

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. announced Monday that the study on implementing a maximum suggested retail price (MSRP) for pork was expected to be completed by the end of February.

"Two weeks from now, probably, or by the end of February should be enough time," Laurel said during a Palace press briefing.

He also discussed the issue in a Monday morning meeting with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

''Among other products ay nagpa-review siya sa—nag-present kami sa kaniya ng situation sa food, ano, and iyong pork nga was… at itlog medyo na-mention, at he took particular interest in,'' Laurel said.

The Agriculture Secretary added that the government was investigating whether profiteering had contributed to the high pork prices.

The Department of Agriculture has been studying potential MSRP levels, as pork prices remain high—P480 per kilogram for liempo and P420 for pigue.

Despite the elevated prices, the DA assured that the country's pork supply remained sufficient. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
