More than 100 IGL workers participated in Career Con 2025 —Laguesma

More than 100 internet gambling licensee (IGL) workers have participated in the Career Con 2025 job fair in Pasay City, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said Wednesday.

''Kahapon, mahigit 100 yung nagjoin... if we will remember ang estimated number ng mga IGL workers na naapektuhan ng closure more or less, almost 40,000. Hindi pa ganoon karami ang mga nagpupunta sa mga jobs fair,'' Laguesma told reporters.

(Yesterday, more than 100 have joined... if we will remember the estimated number of IGL workers that are affected by the closure, that's almost 40,000. The number of IGLs who participated was not that big yet.)

Laguesma expressed hope that the job fair would help those affected by the POGO ban, particularly the IGL, to find new jobs.

''Hopefully, ma-qualify din ang ating IGL-affected workers nang sa gayon eh makatransition sila smoothly sa bagong hanapbuhay,'' Laguesma said.

(Hopefully our IGL-affected workers will also qualify and this will help them in their transition of finding new jobs.)

Organized by online job portal, Jobstreet by SEEK, the event aims to bring together job seekers, industry experts, and top companies “for an unparalleled opportunity to connect and thrive in their professional journeys.”

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. in July last year banned all POGOs after several such businesses were implicated in crimes, including human trafficking, serious illegal detention, and money scams.

In November 2024, Marcos issued Executive Order No. 74, which states that the ban on POGOs and internet gaming licenses shall encompass illegal offshore gaming operations, license applications, license renewals, and cessation of operations.

An interagency was formed—composed of BI, the Department of Justice, DOLE, and others—to oversee the closure of POGOs and assist affected workers.
