Distribution utilities ordered to refund customers for regulatory reset costs
Households can expect a refund on their electricity bills soon, as the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Wednesday ordered private distribution utilities to return the remaining amounts collected from consumers for the expense of the regulatory reset.
According to the ERC, the refunds — ranging from 4.76 centavos per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to 31.90 centavos per kWh — will be implemented for one month for most PDUs, except for Clark Electric Distribution Corporation which will implement the refund in two months.
The refunds were initially approved by the ERC to be collected in order to engage technical exports for the periodical regulatory rate reset, but the agency said no actual payments were made as the experts were not engaged.
Below is a list of the estimated refunds, which will be reflected as a separate line item in the electricity bills of consumers:
