P38, P36 per kilo rice at Kadiwa stalls in January 2025 -DA

Following the rollout of the Rice-for-All program, which offers rice at a lower price of P40 per kilo, the Department of Agriculture (DA)  plans to sell cheaper rice varieties at its Kadiwa ng Pangulo stalls in January 2025.

At the Saturday News Forum, DA Assistant Secretary Genevieve Guevarra announced that the department would sell a type of brown rice, to be initially called "Nutri Rice," at P38  per kilo.

In addition, the DA will offer a rice variety called "Sulit Rice" at P36 per kilo. According to Guevarra, Sulit Rice will be a “super broken” variety.

Guevarra explained that both "Nutri Rice" and  "Sulit Rice" will be the DA’s New Year offering, aimed at providing cheaper alternatives for the public.

"Internally, we need to believe in the product. We’re conducting tests to determine nutritional level niya, compared to regular white rice that we eat,” Guevarra said.

So far, the tests are receiving positive reactions.

“Hindi namin ikakahiya na ibenta ito,” the DA official said.
