Marcos: PH developing seed production centers in communities, universities
The Philippines will develop seed production facilities in communities and universities to improve the country’s food production, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said on Friday.
At the ceremonial turnover of the Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture (KOPIA) Greenhouses and Postharvest Facilities in Quezon, Marcos said the food production facility would improve the needs of the agricultural sector.
“Through these endeavors, no farmer, no family, no community will be left behind as we strive for a future where agriculture drives growth, nourishes our people, and sustains our nation,” Marcos said.
Marcos said the creation of a food production facility would be led by the Department of Agriculture (DA) with the help of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and other state universities and colleges.
Marcos said the facility opened a new chapter in the Philippine agricultural sector—“one rooted in partnership, driven by innovation, and aimed at achieving food security for our nation.”
Marcos said the greenhouses and postharvest facilities turned over will help our small communities improve their capacity to export their products.
“Through continuous collaboration, soon, they will be part of the regional value chain,” Marcos said.
Marcos said around 20 greenhouses have been established across pilot villages in Lucban, Quezon; Siniloan, Laguna; and Zaragoza in Nueva Ecija.
“These greenhouses are hubs of fresh vegetable and very importantly seedling production—complemented by three postharvest facilities, advanced machinery all designed to reduce the burden of our farmers and increase profitability,” Marcos said. —NB, GMA Integrated News
