NEDA says ‘business as usual’ despite political noise
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) on Thursday underscored that the current political issues in the Philippines would not affect the “positive economic outlook” of the country.
“Business as usual for us. I don't think that these political noises would have any impact on the economy,” NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said at a Palace press briefing.
“What is important is that our economic policies, our policy directions are sound and sustained,” he added.
The Dutertes have been launching tirades against the Marcoses, with Vice President Sara Duterte said she had contracted someone to assassinate President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.—as well as Romualdez and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos—if she were killed, a statement she has since claimed has been "maliciously taken out of context."
The Vice President also believed that there is no patching things up with Marcos, noting that they have reached the “point of no return."
According to Balisacan, the country has hurdled various political challenges since the late 1990s and the Philippines has remained strong because of “sound and stable economic policies.”
Balisacan underscored that the Marcos administration would continue to focus on meeting the targets that were set under the Philippine Development Plan.
“In this administration, we are so focused on ensuring that the goals and targets and strategies that we have outlined in the Philippine Development Plan will be achieved. And that’s what is important for the broad public to signal that the economic momentum is sustained,” he said.
