PH lifts ban on birds, poultry imports from Michigan
The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday announced the lifting of the import ban of birds and poultry products from Michigan in the United States.
DA Secretary Francisco Tiu-Laurel Jr. issued DA Memorandum No. 47 after the US veterinary authorities informed the World Organisation for Animal Health that cases of the avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, had been resolved and there were no new cases after July 12, 2024.
The order will be immediately effective, the DA said.
Tiu-Laurel said that all import transactions must adhere to all DA rules and regulations pertaining to agricultural food imports.
In June, Tiu-Laurel ordered the temporary import ban on domestic and wild birds and associated products, including poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and semen from Michigan due to an outbreak of the H5N1 subtype of avian influenza.
