Agri damage due to Kristine, Leon breaches P4B —NDRRMC

Damage to agriculture worth P4,467,500,427 was reported in different regions after the onslaught of Tropical Cyclones Kristine and Leon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Friday.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said most of the damage to agriculture was reported in Bicol Region with P2,831,633,632. The following regions also reported damage to agriculture:

  • Mimaropa - P736,476,510
  • Central Luzon - P316,691,774
  • Ilocos Region - P217,244,977
  • Eastern Visayas - P183,496,416
  • Calabarzon - P75,314,573
  • Western Visayas- P39,189,278
  • Cordillera - P18,621,027
  • Soccsksargen - P16,212,237

Around 105,258 farmers and fisherfolks as well as 90,321 hectares of crops were affected by Kristine and Leon, according to the NDRRMC.

Damage to infrastructure worth P6,829,789,026 and to irrigation facilities worth P32,620,000 were also monitored.

The NDRRMC said the reported death toll due to the recent weather disturbances remained at 150. Thirty people were still reported missing and 122 others were reported injured.

A total of 7,953,766 people or 2,028,282 families in 17 regions were affected by Kristine and Leon.

Of the affected population, 311,980 people or 81,716 families were in evacuation centers while 431,596 individuals or 88,304 families were in other places.

As floods and landslides hit some affected areas, a total of 155,121 houses were damaged — 143,092 partially and 12,029 totally.

Problems in power supply, water supply, and communication line services were also encountered.

Due to the threat of Kristine and Leon, 96 seaports and three airports suspended operations. At seaports, 2,243 passengers, 515 rolling cargoes, 24 vessels, and six motorbancas were stranded.

Classes in 1,167 and work schedules in 782 areas were suspended.

State of calamity was declared in the following areas:

  • Dagupan City
  • Bani in Pangasinan
  • Ilagan and Roxas in Isabela
  • Cavite Province
  • Batangas Province
  • Quezon Province
  • Santa Cruz, San Pedro, Victoria, Los Baños, Biñan, Calamba, Cabuyao, Majayjay, Santa Rosa, and Paete in Laguna
  • Puerto Galera, Naujan, Victoria, Pola, Socorro, Pinamalayan, Mansalay, and Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro
  • Albay Province
  • Bulan, Irosin, Juban, Donsol, Castilla, and Matnog in Sorsogon
  • Camarines Sur Province
  • Catanduanes Province
  • Camarines Norte Province
  • Naga City
  • Calbayog in Samar
  • Jipapad, Arteche, San Policarpo, Oras, Maslog, Dolores, Can-avid, Taft, Sulat, San Julian, Borongan, and Maydolong in Eastern Samar
  • Magpet in Cotabato
  • Barangays Kiling and San Juan in Alfonso Lista (Potia), Ifugao
  • Quezon City

Assistance worth P996,662,070 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC.

Kristine entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on October 21 and made a landfall over Divilacan, Isabela on October 24. It exited PAR on October 25.

Leon entered PAR on October 26. It passed close to Batanes and exited PAR on October 31.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
