SSS chief Rolando Macasaet steps down

Rolando Macasaet has stepped down as president and chief executive officer (CEO) of state-run pension fund Social Security System (SSS), the agency announced on Sunday.

SSS said Macasaet stepped down from his position effective Sunday, October 6, 2024, after 19 months with the agency since taking the helm on January 5, 2023.

The agency did not provide further details as to Macasaet’s departure, and to who will take over in the interim.

Macasaet also previously served as vice chairperson of the Social Security Commission, or the policy-making body of the SSS. He also advocated SSS coverage for job order, contract of service, and barangay workers.

The SSS said Macasaet’s term covered the delivery of SSS services to communities through the eWheels and E-Center sa Barangay Programs, the relocation of branch offices to shopping malls, and the launch of a new SSS website.

The agency reported 3 million new members from January to September this year, more than double the number of new members onboarded in the same period in 2023.

Under its mandate, the SSS is tasked to promote social justice and provide protection to members and families against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death, and other contingencies resulting in loss of income or financial burden. — Jon Viktor D.
