AmCham-SM partnership seen to upskill Pinoys, boost job-matching

AmCham-SM partnership seen to upskill Pinoys, boost job-matching

The American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (AmCham) said Tuesday it partnered with Sy-led conglomerate SM Group to upskill workers within its network and collaborate with the company’s job-matching program.

In a news release, AmCham said it joined SM Group’s Job Opportunities Building Skills (J.O.B.S.) advocacy.

Under the partnership, the American investors’ group will tap the upskilling opportunities through J.O.B.S for its thousands of employees within the AmCham network.

The partnership also allows AmCham’s 800 member companies to participate in SM Job Fairs across the country.

“The SM J.O.B.S. advocacy’s two-pronged approach to empowering the Filipino worker is quite an effective way to reach people and provide opportunities nationwide,” said Ebb Hinchliffe, executive director of AmCham.

“AmCham has always pushed towards upskilling our local workforce as we see how crucial it is in the sustainability of business,” said Hinchliffe.

Through its partnership with SM Group’s J.O.B.S advocacy, workers within AmCham’s network of companies will be upskilled with digital tools to enhance their productivity and professional development.

Workers under AmCham’s network will be trained in courses such as Digital Marketing for eCommerce, Cloud Foundation, Business Analytics, and Computer Security under the J.O.B.S initiative.

To support job generation among AmCham’s members, SM Investments Corp. vice chairman and lead of the J.O.B.S. project under the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) Teresita Sy-Coson said, “SM will continue to hold job fairs across the country to match job opportunities with the right skills and talents.”

“By providing a venue for employers and potential employees, we are doing our part in pushing job acceleration,” said Sy-Coson.

As part of its advocacy to invest in people and help in job generation, SM Group launched the J.O.B.S. initiative.

The conglomerate earlier said that under its J.O.B.S advocacy, employees are given micro credential training and short courses developed by the Asia Pacific College and the National University.

Through its partnerships with government agencies and industry groups, SM Group said it will continue hosting job fairs in its malls nationwide, and roll out upskilling programs to upgrade the local workforce with relevant skills to future-proof companies.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
