PSE halts trading amid Typhoon Carina

The Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. (PSE) on Wednesday announced the suspension of trading activities in the local bourse.

“Please be informed that there will be no trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange today, July 24, 2024,” the PSE said in an advisory.

The benchmark PSEi closed at 6,753.12, up 41.07 points or 0.61%, on Tuesday.

The broader All Shares closed higher by 38.50 points or 1.07% to 3,638.48.

The PSE’s announcement came after the suspension of government work in Metro Manila due to heavy rains and flooding brought about by Typhoon Carina.

Government work and classes in all levels in the National Capital Region were suspended on Wednesday due to the continuous rain brought about by the Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon Carina, according to an announcement from the Office of the Executive Secretary.

For private companies and offices, the suspension of work is left to the discretion of their officials, the Office of the Executive Secretary said.

Typhoon Carina has further intensified early Wednesday morning as it continued to move towards Taiwan, according to the 5 a.m. Typhoon Bulletin posted by PAGASA.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
