Job, business opportunities open for Pinoys in 2024

Various jobs in the Philippines and abroad will be available to Filipinos this 2024, Sandra Aguinaldo reported on “24 Oras” Tuesday.

According to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), several countries including Hungary, Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, and Canada are looking for employees to fill vacancies for healthcare workers, construction workers, drivers, and tourism workers, among others.

“Unang-unang po ay mag-ingat po tayo. Ang impormasyon po ay pwede po makuha sa DMW website. Makikita niyo po ang totoong number ng agencies, sino ang agencies na may job order,” said DMW Undersecretary Yvonne Caunan.

(First, employees seeking jobs abroad should be vigilant. All information related to working overseas is available on the DMW website. There, you can see the number of agencies and which firms have job orders.)

Job opportunities in the Philippines, meanwhile, include those in the information technology sector, construction, hotel and tourism, education, creatives, and health and wellness.

Other industries with employment opportunities include the manufacturing, as well as the power and energy sectors.

“Meron pa rin talagang need to address the issue ng continuing job skills mismatch and also would like to consider geographical mismatch. We're trying to... tinitinginan natin paano ba namin mapalakas yan,” said Labor and Employment Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma.

(There is still a need to address the continuing job skills mismatch and geographical mismatch. We’re looking for ways to improve this.)

Laguesma advised the public to continue upskilling or enroll in courses under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to develop skills.

Meanwhile, Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion urged Filipinos to start small businesses for an additional stream of income. He pointed to “online selling” as one of the examples.

“‘Yung sari-sari stores at retail shops. Talagang maliit na negosyo. Mahalaga dito ay 'yung pagtutulong sa mga malalaking corporation to give them access sa mga binebenta nila,” said Concepcion.

(The important part is how companies help them by giving access to their products.)

“Tinuturuan natin sila to become influencer. Sa isang negosyo, kailangan marunong sila sa marketing,” he said.

(We also teach them how to become influencers. Marketing is vital to businesses.) — Sundy Locus/DVM, GMA Integrated News
