Borongan airport gets P200-M capital outlay for 2024
The P5.678 trillion budget for 2024 has earmarked P200 million for the capital outlay of Borongan Airport, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan of 4Ps party-list said.
Libanan, in a statement, said that the P200 million will enable the airport to upgrade its aviation infrastructure, among other updates.
The airport serves Eastern Samar province and the coastal capital city of Borongan, a popular surfing spot.
“The airport’s improvement will facilitate the transfer of people and goods, and help bring in more tourists,” Libanan, who previously represented Eastern Samar in Congress, said.
The Borongan airport is currently undergoing a 200-meter extension of its 1.3-kilometer runway.
“Our goal is to increase the airport’s capacity to accommodate more commercial flights,” Libanan added.
Libanan then said that with the Philippine Airlines (PAL) already having weekly flights between Cebu and Borongan and vice versa, he hopes other airlines will follow suit.
“We look forward to other airlines operating flights in and out of Borongan,” Libanan said. —Llanesca T. Panti/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
