Fuel subsidies to be released September 13 –LTFRB

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to release fuel subsidies on Wednesday, September 13, following 10 straight weeks of increases in pump prices in the country.

Under the Fuel Subsidy Program, qualified operators of modern public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and UV Express will receive P10,000, while operators of other public vehicles will be given P6,500.

Qualified delivery service riders will be given P1,200, while tricycle drivers will receive P1,000.

(What is important is that the benefits of the subsidy depends on how much petroleum products the public vehicle consumes.

I wish to clarify that this will benefit everyone, modern or not, consolidated or not. This subsidy is for all our operators hit by the successive increases in petroleum prices.)

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the LTFRB estimate some 1.36 million operators will receive the subsidies — 280,000 PUVs, 930,000 tricycles, and 150,000 delivery service riders.

Oil firms on Tuesday implemented another round of increases, marking the ninth straight week of hikes for gasoline, and the tenth for both diesel and kerosene.

Latest data available from the Department of Energy (DOE) indicate year-to-date net increases of P15.50 per liter for gasoline, P11.10 per liter for diesel, and P7.94 per liter for kerosene. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
