Marcos meets with NEDA to tackle Philippine Development Plan

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Tuesday met with officials from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) to discuss the Philippine Development Plan (2023-2028).

The Office of the Press Secretary said they also discussed the measures to address the challenges being faced by the country. The Philippine Development Plan will be presented next month, according to NEDA chief Arsenio Balisacan.

"It will come out next month and we already briefed him on what the major elements… the key elements of those plans, and he provided comments, suggestions moving forward," Balisacan said in a statement.

"He emphasized that the plan should address the concerns of the development... of the local markets. Tama naman, ensuring that they receive the same assistance," Balisacan added.

As part of the Philippine economic recovery, the Philippine Development Plan aims to create jobs for Filipinos and reduce the poverty rate in the country.

The Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028 contains targets and strategic actions of government agencies in the next six years.

Balisacan said the plan involves actionable strategies to develop the domestic market considering its vast potential for both foreign and local investors.

This is among the commitments mentioned by the President in his meeting with global leaders at the recently concluded Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The NEDA chief said this is the first time that the plan would be presented before the start of the first full year of the Chief Executive.

"Ang nangyari noon is all the ships are already in the middle of the sea. They are casting their own nets na. Ngayon nandiyan. So there is now greater opportunity and for coordination ng agencies," Balisacan said.

Balisacan ensured that a framework for regular monitoring and evaluation of the plan's implementation is also in place.

"So every year, we will provide a report to the President and how the plan is being implemented and the performance and the various metrics or targets that have [been] indicated in the plan," Balisacan said. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
