NTC tells telcos to continue text blast vs. personalized text scams

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has directed the country’s telecommunications companies to continue the text blast warning subscribers of “the need to continue its efforts against personalized scam messages.

In a memorandum issued on Tuesday, the NTC directed telcos to continue the text blast to subscribers from October 5 to October 11 October 2022 as part of its Kontra Text Scam Campaign.

The text blast contains the message: Huwag pong maniwala sa text na naglalaman ng inyong pangalan na nag-aalok ng trabaho, pabuya, o pera. Ito po ay scam. I-report sa https://ntc.gov.ph.

(Do not believe texts containing your name and offering jobs, prizes, or money. These are scams. Report them to https://ntc.gov.ph)

The NTC also directed the PTEs to continue the process of blocking SIM cards found to have been used in text scams.

In another memo, the NTC mandated all NTC Regional Directors and Officers-in-Charge to appear before local radio and television stations within their respective jurisdictions at least ten (10) times to warn and educate the public on reporting these text scams.

In September, NTC launched the Kontra Text Scam campaign to inform the public and avoid being victimized by text scam fraudsters.

The campaign also shared the process to identify and report text scams via email at kontratextscam@ntc.gov.ph or through https://ntc.gov.ph. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA News
