BOC seizes P15-million luxury car misdeclared as used auto parts
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Port of Davao has seized a luxury car misdeclared as used automobile parts in a joint physical examination conducted on September 1, 2022.
In a statement, the BOC said it received a report from Sasa Police Station about the luxury vehicle. During the investigation, the authorities discovered a white Porsche 911 GT3 RS unit worth P15,308,486.14 concealed in a container.
The shipment, misdeclared as used automobile parts, arrived from Japan on August 31, 2022.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency XI (PDEA)- Region XI also inspected the vehicle for possible drug smuggling but found no illegal substances.
A Warrant of Seizure and Detention has been issued against the shipment for violating R.A. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
However, BOC stated they are constantly strengthening coordination with partner law enforcement agencies by increasing information sharing to thwart anti-social commodities smuggling. — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA News
