BOC seizes P1.5 million worth of misdeclared chlorine at Port of Cebu
The Bureau of Customs reported on Monday that authorities at the Port of Cebu seized a shipment that had been misdeclared as calcium carbonate but which turned out to be P1.5 million worth of chlorine.
In a statement, the BOC said the 21,577 kilos of chlorine were discovered last week during an inspection by the bureau, the Enforcement and Security Service, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Philippine Coast Guard.
The misdeclaration would have resulted in the loss of P199,241.06 in duties and taxes.
District Collector Charlito Martin Mendoza immediately issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention against the shipment after finding probable cause for misdeclaration in violation of Section 1113 (F), (I), and (L-3, 4, & 5) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. — DVM, GMA News
