Marcos Jr. bats for tax amnesty for MSMEs affected by lockdowns
Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos on Monday urged the government to implement a tax amnesty and a tax holiday for small businesses which have been affected by the COVID-19 related lockdowns.
According to Arjil Relator’s report on “24-oras”, Marcos said giving MSMEs some tax relief would help them keep afloat and cushion the impact of the pandemic.
“Yung hindi makapag-bayad ng buwis dahil lockdown, pagbigyan na natin dahil wala na talaga. Hindi na makakapag-bayad dahil nag-lockdown ang gobyerno (dahil sa pandemya),” Marcos said during a townhall meeting at Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat.
“Papaano sasabihin kailangan magbabayad ng buwis, wala naman silang kinikita,” he added.
Meanwhile, the party of presidential candidate Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno requested the Supreme Court (SC) for a Certificate of Finality in relation to the High Court’s 1997 decision on the tax liability of the Marcos family amounting to P203.819 billion.
Marcos' spokesperson Atty. Victor Rodriguez on Saturday claimed that the noise about the issue was "all politics."
“Our rivals are misdirecting everyone by claiming that the case has attained finality when the truth of the matter is, it is still pending in court and the ownership of the properties in litigation has yet to be settled,” he added.
Marcos and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte are currently holding a four-day campaign swing in Mindanao.
The tandem, together with other candidates, will hold proclamation rallies in General Santos, South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Maguindanao, and Sultan Kudarat.
On Wednesday, they are set to conduct campaign sorties in Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, and in Davao del Sur. —Mel Matthew Doctor/NB, GMA News
