Diesel hits P97 per liter in Boracay in latest fuel price hike

Diesel hit P97 per liter in Boracay on Tuesday as the latest round of fuel price hike pushed the price of both diesel and gasoline past P80 in most parts of the country.

According to Bernadette Reyes’ “24 Oras” report on Tuesday, the price of expensive fuel varied depending on the location. Diesel in Puerto Princesa, Palawan increased  to P80 per liter of diesel.

In Metro Manila, motorcycle riders would not even buy a full liter of gas because of the exorbitant cost.

“May booking ako kanina P100, tapos yung P50 ayon pinang-gas ko. May P50 pa po ako. Saka na lang babawi pagnakarami mamaya pagpauwi. Kasi ngayon kaunti pa lang yung booking,” delivery rider George Henson said.

(I had a booking earlier for P100, then the P50 to pay for gas, I still have P50. I  only have limited bookings, I hope I can get more bookings later on.)

The National Public Transport Coalition said there were jeepney drivers who no longer plied their routes due to the increase in fuel prices.

Some drivers have said they would go on a "rest day" on Monday if they didn't receive the fuel subsidy the government promised this week.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) offered free rides on Commonwealth Avenue for stranded passengers on Tuesday.

The Quezon City local government, on the other hand, also prepared a free ride for commuters.

Meanwhile, if the price of Dubai crude in the world market reaches $140 per barrel, it could hit more than P81.10 diesel per liter, P86.72 gasoline per liter, and P80.50 kerosene per liter.
