Authorities seize P4.1 million worth of ecstasy tablets in Pasay

Authorities seized over P4.1 million worth of ecstasy tablets concealed in two letter posts and a parcel declared as switch panel in Pasay City.

Joint operations by the Bureau of Customs at Port of NAIA (BOC-NAIA), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) led to the seizure of the ecstasy tablets shipped at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) and DHL warehouse in Pasay.

A total of 2,437 units of party drugs or ecstasy tablets with an estimated market value of P4,142,900 were discovered in both operations.

The BOC said that one of the parcels originated from the Netherlands and  the other from Germany. These parcels were consigned to different individuals addressed in Quezon City, Bulacan, and Las Piñas City.

The pieces of evidence were then turned over to PDEA Laboratory Service for further case profiling and build up against the people responsible for the shipping and importation of contraband items in violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The BOC noted that this is the 57th drug bust of BOC-NAIA for 2021. They said the majority of illegal drugs seized this year were ecstasy and shabu.

Records also showed that there were 30 drug busts in 2018, 31 in 2019, and 43 in 2020 by BOC-NAIA. — Giselle Ombay/BM, GMA News
