Customs seizes P60 million worth of allegedly smuggled luxury cars

The Bureau of Customs has confiscated allegedly smuggled luxury cars and motor vehicles with an estimated value of P60 million from a showroom in Xavierville, Loyola Heights in Quezon City.

In a statement, the BOC said it received an intelligence report that a garage in the area was storing smuggled imported vehicles. It then issued a letter of authority against the owner.

Customs operatives with members of the Manila International Container Port, the National Bureau of Investigation, and the Philippine Coast Guard inspected the showroom, resulting in the discovery of another batch of luxury cars including a Porsche Turbo, a Mini Cooper, a Mercedes Benz Kompressor, a Toyota Sprinter, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, a Honda Civic and a SUV Lexus Lx570.

Also stored were several BMW, Vespa, and Ducati motorcycles and big bikes.

The BOC said if the owner fails to present importation documents within 15 days, the vehicles will be subjected to seizure and forfeiture under the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
