50,000 motorists to benefit from Subic Expressway's 4 lanes
Around 50,000 motorists will benefit from the opening of two more lanes on the Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX), an estimate by the North Luzon Expressway management showed.
According to Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras,” motorists may now use all four lanes of the SFEX.
“‘Pag two lanes lang hindi ka rin puwede mag-overtake. Very limited and syempre malaki and cause ng traffic,” Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said.
Authorities are hoping that the SFEX will not only help the economy in general, but also business prospects in the nearby provinces of Bataan, Zambales, and Pampanga.
“This Subic Bay Freeport Expressway Expansion is key for us to get more investors and generate more jobs, because it will provide easy access not just for people but for goods traversing toward Northern Luzon and Central Luzon,” SBMA Chairman Wilma Eisma said.
Meanwhile, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said it seemed like his travel time was cut down to 2 hours from the previous 6 hours.
“Nung ako ay kabataan ko pa, 6 na oras po para makauwi… ngayon po with this expressway talagang parang 2 oras na lang. Maraming salamat po at maraming slamat din po sa ngalan ng mga dolphines,” Harry Roque said.
Motorists will be able to use the SFEX freely until its toll fee is approved by the Toll Regulatory Board. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
