New Clark Airport terminal building 99.8% complete – DOTr

The new passenger terminal building (PTB) at the Clark International Airport is almost ready to host flights and serve air travelers, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Saturday.

“With its accelerated pace of construction, the new Passenger Terminal Building of Clark International Airport is now 99.80% COMPLETE!” the DOTr said in a statement

With this, the airport is on track to open by January next year as directed by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.

The development, undertaken as a hybrid public-private partnership (PPP) project, was bagged by the Megawide GMR Construction Joint Venture Inc. (MGCJV).

The group counts as members Megawide Construction Corp., GMR Infrastructure (Singapore) Pte. Limited, and GME Holdings Overseas (Singapore) Pte. Limited.

The engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the project was signed on January 29, 2018, and involves the construction of a new 82,600-square meter PTB.

“The Clark International Airport expansion project has been one of the priority projects under the Duterte Administration’s ‘Build, Build, Build’ Program,” the DOTr said.

“Its importance is underscored by the fact that even in the midst of a pandemic, its development work continued, and construction immediately resumed upon the easing of quarantine restrictions, and with stringent health and safety protocols in place, to ensure and protect the overall welfare of the workers,” it said.

Upon completion and subsequent opening of the new PTB, the operational capacity of Clark International Airport will get a boost, and its passenger volume will triple, from the current 4.2 million to 12.2 million annually.

“Envisioned to be a cornerstone in spurring economic progress in Central Luzon, this huge development for CRK, hailed as the ‘Asia's Next Premier Gateway,’ will not only help in decongesting the air traffic at the NAIA, but will also open the way for job opportunities, more progressive tourism, and advanced socio-economic activities in the region,” the DOTr said. — DVM, GMA News
