Gyms, cinemas, others in MGCQ areas allowed to open at 50% capacity
Fitness gyms, cinemas, computer shops, bars, and other business establishments in areas under a modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) will be allowed to reopen, albeit at a reduced operating capacity, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Tuesday.
Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Region II, Region III, Region IV-A, Region VII, Cebu City, Mandaue City, Zamboanga City, and Davao City have transitioned to general community quarantine (GCQ) beginning June 1 until 15, while the rest of the country is now under an MGCQ.
During a Palace briefing, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said businesses under Category 4 are still prohibited to reopen under GCQ, but are allowed to resume in MGCQ areas at 50% operating capacity.
“So example po rito ay iyong mga gyms and fitness studios and sports facilities,” Lopez said.
The Trade chief noted that under GCQ, sports activities are allowed if they are done outdoors, not indoors.
“Pero under Modified GCQs, outdoor and indoor sports facilities will now be allowed to operate.
Other business activities allowed to reopen in MGCQ areas are the following:
- Kids amusements
- Archives
- Museums
- Travel agencies
- Other personal care services
- Pet grooming
- Internet, and computer shops, and other education support establishments
— DVM, GMA News
