Duterte yet to decide on Security of Tenure Bill

President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to make up his mind on the bill seeking to end contractualization, which is set to lapse into law by the end of this week.

Duterte, speaking with the press after his fourth State of the Nation Address at the Batasang Pambansa on Monday, said that he had consulted with a "lot of people" regarding the proposed measure, which was one of his campaign promises.

"Pinag-aralan na namin mismo. I have to confer with a lot of people affected. you know this is two to tango to eh.It would affect the employers and of course it could also greatly favor the workers," the president explained.

"It's a catch 22 for me."

Duterte said he could sign, veto or allow the bill to lapse into law.

Several business groups had urged Duterte to veto the bill, warning that its enactment could lead to job losses and affect the economy.

The proposed measure would eliminate the subcontracting of labor.

It also seeks to limit job contracting to licensed and specialized services and classify workers into regular and probationary employees, treating project and seasonal employees as regular employees. — DVM, GMA News
