BSP to accommodate select individuals to exchange old peso bills on January 3
The public may swap their old New Design Series (NDS) banknotes for the New Generation Currency (NGC) on January 3, provided they secure a receipt from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) showing that they went to the central bank before the December 29 deadline.
In an interview on GMA News' "News to Go" on Thursday, BSP Currency Management Sub-Sector managing director Carlyn Pangilinan said they were not able to accommodate several individuals who tried to exchange their NDS due to the unexpected number of people who arrived.
"Kahapon po, dahil po 'yung iba ay sobra pong dumagsa bigla kahapon ang mga magpapalit, napakiusapan po namin 'yung mga hindi naman ma-accommodate kahapon na they can come back on January 3," she said.
The BSP earlier this week said it will no longer extend its deadline, and the public may only exchange their old banknotes for the NGC series until December 29.
According to Pangilinan, the BSP will only accommodate those with receipts on January 3.
"Hindi po namin ine-extend ang aming deadline. It is still on December 29," she said.
"This is an accommodation because we know that they came to the BSP before the deadline... They will be prioritized, they will be the only ones who will be accommodated to exchange on January 3 because dumating naman po sila before the deadline," she added. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/KG, GMA News
