DTI reminds public to be vigilant in buying Christmas lights

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Monday reminded the public to be vigilant in buying decorations for the holiday season, especially Christmas lights.

According to a report on GMA News' Balitanghali, customers must make sure that the product has a PS mark or a product safety mark if it is locally made, and an ICC or an International Compliance Certificate if it is imported.

The DTI also reminded customers to check whether the lights are for indoor or outdoor use, and whether the wiring and sockets are up to standards.

Warranties must also be valid for at least six months, according to the Philippine Consumer Act (PCA), while products may be returned or exchanged within 60 days after purchase. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/KG, GMA News
