DTI official eats roasted chicken for lunch


Trade and Industry Undersecretary Teodoro Pascua had roasted chicken for lunch on Monday to prove the point that people should not be afraid of eating properly cooked poultry meat.

Following the bird flu outbreak in San Luis, Pampanga, the Department of Trade and Industry on Monday took the lead in inspecting public markets in Quezon City public, according to a report on GMA News' "Balitanghali."

The Trade department, the Department of Health, and the Department of Agriculture are trying to convince consumers not to be afraid to buy poultry products as sales dipped over the weekend prompting sellers in a number of wet markets to cut prices by as much as P30 a kilo.

Since the outbreak was officially announced on Friday, poultry meat has been selling at P130 per kg. in Q-Mart and Farmer's Market. Some sellers even sell as low as P120 per kg. in other outlets.

The DTI said it was a big drop from P150 – the normal selling price per kilo of poultry meat.
