Incoming BSP chief willing to work with Congress on reforms

Incoming Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Nestor A. Espenilla Jr. is willing to work closely with Congress on reforms which will benefit the Philippine financial system.

"We do have an ambitious legislative agenda that is essential towards achieving our goals," Espenilla told reporters in a briefing in Manila City on Tuesday, a day after President Rodrigo Duterte named him as successor to outgoing Governor Amando Tetangco Jr.

Among the legislation pending before Congress, Espenilla is eyeing the amendments of the BSP Charter and the initiative to relax the bank deposit secrecy law.

He said he wants to expand the coverage of the anti-money laundering laws to include casinos, and get a proper payments system action in place.

"These are just some of the very important pieces of legislation that we have to act on with Congress," Espenilla said. — VDS, GMA News
