Ginger prices going back to normal after reaching all-time high


The price of ginger is slowly normalizing in Metro Manila markets after reaching an all-time high in early June.
 
From 250 pesos, ginger now costs 200 pesos per kilo in Mega Q Mart in Quezon City.
 
"Nung mga nakaraang araw kasi pinatigil nila 'yung imported na luya kasi mas mura 'yun sa luya namin na Tagalog. Noong naglabasan ang imported na luya, bumaba naman ang Tagalog," said vendor Elsie Lumbang.

Imported ginger is pegged at 170-180 pesos per kilo, so local farmers have to compete with this price.
 
Vendors are expecting ginger price to settle at the regular rate of 150 pesos per kilo in the coming months.
