Intl shipping lines wary of going to PHL due to port congestion

No thanks to the port congestion in Manila, some international shipping firms are wary of making trips or bringing cargo to the Philippines, a television report said Tuesday night.

But the Philippine Ports Authority maintained pier operations are normalizing, GMA News' Maki Pulido reported on GMA News TV's "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho."

The report said at least three of 41 international shipping lines are not keen on making trips to the Philippines as the port congestion is causing losses.

According to the Association of International Shipping Lines, shipping companies are not happy with having to wait for a week or more before being able to dock.

Such a situation means fewer trips, and smaller profits.

Because of this, many shipping lines are declining sending cargo to the Philippines for now.

However, the PPA said pier operations are eventually returning to normal. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
