Heat blamed for fish kill in Ilocos Sur
The hot weather in recent weeks is being blamed for fish kill in Ilocos Sur province.
Up to 20 fishes or about two kilos are dying in each fish cage in Caoayan town, GMA Ilocos reported Thursday.
According to the local fisheries office, fish kills are inevitable especially if fish cage owners do not take the proper precautions.
"Isang dahilan ang marami masyado ang inaalagaan," said fishery coordinator Gemma Real.
State weather agency PAGASA earlier said temperatures are about to get hotter in the coming weeks due to the onset of the dry (summer) season.
Also, PAGASA said the country is experiencing a mild El Niño, which may mean below normal rainfall. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
