DBP names new president


A veteran banker has been appointed the new president of state-owned Development Bank of the Philippines.
 
In a statement, DBP announced that Gil A. Buenaventura, who was former chief operating officer of Bank of the Philippine Islands, was sworn in Tuesday as the bank’s new president.
 
Buenaventura replaces Francisco F. del Rosario, who said that he resigned for health reasons.
 
In BPI and its units, Buenaventura held various positions before serving as its COO, his position immediately prior to his appointment at DBP.
 
He was head of BPI’s corporate banking group and served as chairman of the boards of BPI Bancassurance Inc., Citytrust Realty Corp., BPI Rental Corp., BPI International Finance Ltd., BPI Express Remittance Corp., Pilipinas Savings Bank Inc., BPI Computer Systems Corp., BPI Direct Savings Bank Inc., Citytrust Securities Corp., Ayala Life Assurance, Inc., and Ayala Plans Inc.
 
Buenaventura holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from University of San Francisco and an MBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin.
He was sworn in by Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras in a ceremony held at DBP headquarters in Makati City. — BM, GMA News
