Metro Pacific Fresh Farms to double Bulacan greenhouse size

SAN RAFAEL, Bulacan – Metro Pacific Fresh Farms (MPFF), a joint venture between Metro Pacific Agro Ventures (MPAV) and Israel-based LR Group, inaugurated its 3.5-hectare greenhouse facility on Tuesday, with plans to double its size.

The P800-million vegetable farm is expected to produce up to 500 metric tons of fresh produce annually, including 60,000 heads of lettuce per month (144 MT per year).

MPAV CEO Jovy Hernandez revealed that Metro Pacific Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan has directed MPFF to expand the farm to seven hectares.

The expansion cost is expected to be lower than the initial investment since much of the infrastructure is already in place.

The expansion is targeted for completion in the second half of 2026.

MPFF markets its high-value vegetables—lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers—under the "MVP" (More Veggies Please) brand, catering to hypermarkets, hotels, restaurants, and food processors.

In addition to the Bulacan expansion, MPFF aims to establish at least 10 satellite greenhouse farms nationwide within the next five years.

Developed with LR Group’s state-of-the-art technology, the greenhouse uses 90% less water and land while yielding five times more produce than traditional farms.

Hernandez emphasized that this innovation supports a sustainable food system, ensuring consistent quality and supply year-round.

Pangilinan underscored the broader goal of the venture, stating, “The vision behind these investments is an agriculturally independent Philippines.” — DVM, GMA Integrated News
