PCIC, GCash partner for e-wallet indemnity payouts

The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) and GCash have signed a memorandum of agreement to distribute indemnity payments to insured farmers through the e-wallet platform.

The agreement, signed on January 24 with G-Xchange Inc., the operator of GCash, integrates GCash’s Funds Disbursement Service, ensuring faster, safer, and more efficient payment distribution.

“This innovation not only aligns with the government’s goal of financial inclusivity but also supports PCIC’s push for digitalization and process efficiency,” PCIC President Attorney Jovy Bernabe said in a statement on Sunday.

Beyond indemnity payments, the partnership introduces farmers to GCash’s digital ecosystem, enabling them to save, invest, and access microfinancing tools to support financial growth—even in remote areas.

PCIC, an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture, provides insurance protection to farmers against losses due to natural calamities, plant diseases, and pest infestations affecting palay, corn, and other crops. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
