Megawide secures P1.87B contract for Cavite BRT

Construction magnate Edgar Saavedra’s Megawide Construction Corp. has bagged the contract to develop and operate a planned modernized bus transportation system in the province of Cavite.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Thursday, Megawide said that on January 8, 2025, it formally received the Notice of Award for the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System, dated December 26, 2024, from the Office of the Provincial Governor of the Province of Cavite.

“The Notice provides that the Company, together with Maplecrest Group, Inc., were selected as the private sector proponents and were awarded the Joint Venture Agreement for the implementation of the Cavite Bus Rapid Transit Project with an estimated total project cost of approximately P1,870,000,000,” Megawide said.

Megawide said the award is subject to the fulfillment of all necessary conditions and submitting required documentation.

The Cavite BRT project aims for the development, operation, and maintenance of a BRT and point-to-point route (P2P) with an alignment of approximately 42 kilometers traversing through the Cities and Municipalities of Cavite specifically Imus, General Trias, Tanza, Kawit, Trece Martires, and its surrounding areas and providing a link to Metro Manila via the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

In particular, the BRT component of the system will provide a means of transportation within Kawit, Imus, General Trias, Tanza, and Trece Martires while the P2P component will provide a link to PITX.

The project will be done in two phases with Phase 1– involving the construction of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, 27 BRT stations spanning an alignment of 15 kilometers, and 26.5 kilometers of P2P alignment from PITX to Terminal 2– slated for operations in 2026.

The Phase 2, on the other hand, involves the construction of Terminal 3, and additional 20 stations or 13.79 kilometers from Station 27 to the New Capitol Building of Cavite.

In April 2023, Megawide and its partner, Mapplecrest, submitted an unsolicited proposal for the Cavite BRT System project and was approved by the Cavite LGU in October 2023.

It was then subjected to negotiations and comparative bids last year, until the project was awarded to original proponents in January this year. —RF, GMA Integrated News
