Water rate hike looms for Manila Water, Maynilad customers starting Jan. 2025
Customers of Manila Water Company Inc. and Maynilad Water Services Inc. should brace for higher bills next year as the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) is reviewing the upcoming implementation of the approved rate hikes of the water concessionaires in 2022.
Based on the approved rates during the 5th rate rebasing period for the water distribution utilities, the rate for Manila Water is scheduled to increase by P3.25 per cubic in 2025 while for Maynilad the hike would be P2.12 per cubic meter.
MWSS-RO chief regulator Patrick Ty told GMA News Online that the scheduled water rate hikes for both Manila Water and Maynilad is “still being processed” and “still subject to review and inflation adjustment.”
“It’s not automatic unlike before… [we’re] targeting it [review] to be finished by next week,”” Ty said.
The anticipated rate hike for 2025 is part of the approved rate rebasing adjustment, done in 2022, for the 2023 to 2027 period.
