DigiPlus expanding to Brazil, passes online gaming license qualification

Listed firm DigiPlus Interactive Corporation is expanding to Brazil's online or internet gaming (iGaming) sector.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Thursday, DigiPlus said its wholly owned subsidiary, DigiPlus Brazil Interactive Ltda., has passed the qualification stage for a federal license with Brazil's Ministry of Finance's Secretariat of Awards and Bets (SPA).

The internet gaming company said the development advances DigiPlus into the final stages of the South American country's licensing process, "bringing it closer to participation in Brazil's newly regulated iGaming sector, one of Latin America's most dynamic and rapidly growing gaming markets."

DigiPlus said it will have 30 days to fulfill post-qualification regulatory requirements, including platform certification and license fee payments.

After completing the post-qualification requirements, the company said Brazil's SPA shall release the final list of operators authorized to operate from Jan. 1, 2025 onwards.

Once finalized, DigiPlus said it would be allowed to operate online sports betting and other online gaming offerings in Brazil.

The Filipino internet gaming firm is seeing growth opportunities in Brazil's internet gaming market as it has a population exceeding 200 million.

"We are committed to bringing DigiPlus' expertise in responsible and innovative gaming to Brazil," said Eusebio Tanco, chairman of DigiPlus.

"As we navigate the final steps of the licensing process, we remain confident in our ability to align with Brazil's regulatory requirements and introduce world-class gaming experiences to this dynamic market. This underscores our dedication to expanding into a new region while maintaining our focus on the Philippines as our core market," said Tanco.

DigiPlus said it remains dedicated in its strategy to diversify into international markets with robust regulatory frameworks.

Meanwhile, the company said it secured four awards, together with branding specialist Landor, at the Transform Awards Asia 2024 held in Singapore last Nov. 18.

DigiPlus said it received Silver for "Best Brand Evolution (Corporate)," Silver for "Best Use of Visual Property," Bronze for "Best Use of Typography," and Bronze for "Best Brand Development Project to Reflect a Change of Mission, Values, or Positioning."

"The DigiPlus rebranding was more than just a visual overhaul — it was a strategic transformation of who we are and where we're headed," said Celeste Jovenir, vice president for Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, and Sustainability at DigiPlus.

The Transform Awards Asia, organized by Transform Magazine, is an annual event that recognizes excellence in rebranding and brand strategy across the Asia-Pacific region.

DigiPlus was formerly Leisure and Resorts World Corporation. It announced its rebranding last March 2023 as part of its pivot into the growing online gaming sector.
