Damage to electric coops due to Kristine at P13.38M — DOE

Several Electric cooperatives (ECs) reported damages that resulted to power service interruptions after Severe Tropical Storm Kristine wrought havoc in Luzon and the Visayas, the Department of Energy (DOE) said Friday.

In its Energy Situation report, citing data from the National Electrification Administration (NEA), the DOE said the reported initial damage cost incurred by ECs stood at P13,380,908.79.

The following ECs reported damages namely QUIRELCO, ABRECO, BENECO, NEECO II-AREA 1, OMECO, MARELCO, TIELCO, FICELCO, AKELCO, CAPELCO, NONECO, SAMELCO I and LEYECO V.

The Energy Department said 1,282,964 consumer connections from the said ECs are still lined up for restoration.

The NEA report also indicated that 24 ECs are in normal operation, 46 are classified as experiencing partial power interruption (PPI), and three are in total power interruption (TPI).
