PLDT names Butch Jimenez as new EVP and COO

Telecommunications giant PLDT Inc. has named its second-in-command, nearly a year after its chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan took over as chief executive officer (CEO) following the retirement of Alfredo Panlilio due to health reasons.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Tuesday, PLDT announced that its Board of Directors approved on Sept. 17 the appointment of Menardo "Butch" Jimenez Jr. as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the telco firm.

Jimenez's appointment also took effect on the same day, Sept. 17. He is the son of Menardo Jimenez Sr., one of the founders of media conglomerate GMA Network Inc.

The appointment of a COO came on the heels of Pangilinan's search for a new successor, who would take the helm of PLDT.

Prior to his appointment as EVP and COO, Jimenez served as a senior vice president and the network head of PLDT.

"He also served as the Consumer Business Home Advisor from 2022 to 2023, Consumer Business Home Head from 2019 to 2022, Deputy Business Transformation Office Head from 2017 to 2019, Human Resource and Development Head from 2009 to 2019, Retail Business Head from 2004 to 2009, and Media Communications and Public Affairs Head from 2001 to 2004," the telco said.

Jimenez received his AB Economics degree from the University of the Philippines. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
