Customers of Manila Water Company Inc. will have to pay more tariffs in the fourth quarter of 2024 while those of Maynilad Water Services Inc. will have to pay less, as the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) on Monday said it approved the foreign currency differential adjustment (FCDA) for the period.

In a statement, the MWSS Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) said its recommendation to implement the 2024 fourth quarter FCDA effective October 1, 2024 was approved by the Board of Trustees (BOT) on September 12, based on its evaluation of the FCDA proposals of the water concessionaires.

“The MWSS RO confirms a tariff increase for Manila Water customers and a tariff decrease for Maynilad customers,” the statement read.

For the fourth quarter, Manila Water will implement an upward FCDA of 2.03% of its 2024 average basic charge of P42.26 per cubic meter, or P0.86 per cubic meter.

With the adjustment, regular customers of Manila Water who consume 10 cubic meters (cu.m.) or less can expect an increase of P3.65 per month, an P8.10 increase for those consuming 20. cu.m., and a P16.54 upward adjustment for those consuming 30 cu.m.

Meanwhile, Maynilad will apply a downward FCDA of 0.62% of its 2024 average basic charge of P47.57 per cubic meter or a P0.29-downward adjustment per cubic meter.

This translates to a decrease of P0.83 in the monthly bill of residential customers of Maynilad who consume 10 cu.m. or less, P3.14 for those who consume 20 cu.m., and P6.43 for those who consume 30 cu.m.
