San Miguel to award contract for new Boracay Airport terminal building this year

San Miguel to award contract for new Boracay Airport terminal building this year

San Miguel Corp. (SMC) on Monday unveiled plans to build a new passenger terminal building at the Boracay Airport — also known as the Godofredo Ramos Airport or the Caticlan Airport — which will have a 7-million passenger capacity.

According to SMC President and Chief Executive Officer Ramon Ang, the group was looking to award the contract for the new passenger terminal building this year, as the current facility in the area was only temporary.

“Next to that is to build a passenger terminal of 7 million capacity with eight passenger boarding bridges para naman maginhawa ‘yung tao at gagawin din namin ‘yun ngayon na (so that people will be comfortable, and we will do that now),” said Ang during the EJAP-SMC Aviation Forum in Makati City.

“It should be finished in less than three years, a modern passenger terminal. ‘Yung terminal ngayong nandoon sa Caticlan, puro temporary lang lahat ‘yun, (The terminal currently in Caticlan, that is all temporary)” he added.

SMC, through its infrastructure unit, oversees the current and long-term development of the Boracay Airport, including the international airport passenger terminal and the extension of the runway to serve bigger aircraft.

Aside from the Boracay Airport, SMC is also in charge of the Bulacan International Airport and is also part of the group that is set to take over the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on September 14, 2024.

As to whether SMC was keen on taking charge of any other airports in the country, Ang said the group would focus on the three that it had agreed to take over.

“I think with our three assigned airports to us — Caticlan, NAIA, and Bulacan, eh sobra sobra na ‘yun. (that is already too much). I-focus natin (We will focus) to make sure that we can deliver the quality and the timeline that we promised,” he said. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
