Manila Water installs over 14K new water connections in H1 2024

East Zone concessionaire Manila Water Company Inc. on Thursday said it has installed over 14,000 new water service connections in the first half of 2024 in a bid to expand its water and wastewater services in its franchise area.

In a news release, Manila Water said its new water service installations during the period reached 14,125.

Broken down, new domestic or household connections clocked in at 13,684 while new commercial connections stood at 442.

This brought Manila Water’s total water service connections in the East Zone to 1,182,753 as of end-June 2024. This is equivalent to 7.7 million customers.

On the other hand, the water distributor said it also saw an uptick in new sewer connections at 4,172 in the first half of 2024, bringing its sewer service accounts to 297,768.

Manila Water said it has consistently passed the stringent Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water of the Department of Health to ensure public health.

Citing results of the tests conducted, the company said the samples collected from its designated regulatory sampling points were 100% compliant with total coliform and generally compliant with the physical and chemical standards for water.

In June alone, Manila Water said it conducted a total of 8,742 water samplings at reservoirs, pumping stations, distribution network, and customer taps compared to the required 7,804.

“As we are committed to expanding our reach to provide 24/7 potable water to our growing customer base, we are also investing heavily in our wastewater service. Having sewer lines, as well as availing our desludging services, will ensure the proper treatment of wastewater, thus protecting our waterways,” said Manila Water Corporate Communication Affairs Group director Jeric Sevilla.

Manila Water provides water and wastewater services to residents of the cities of Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, San Juan, Taguig, and Marikina; and municipality of Pateros. It is also in charge of the southeastern parts of Quezon City, and Sta. Ana and San Andres in the city of Manila.

In Rizal province, the concessionaire services the city of Antipolo, and the municipalities of San Mateo, Rodriguez, Cainta, Taytay, Teresa, Angono, Baras, Binangonan, Jalajala, Cardona, Morong, Pililla, and Tanay. —RF, GMA Integrated News
